These sutures are absorbed through enzymatic proteolytic processes, with approximately 50 % tensile strength retained at 7 days and complete absorption typically occurring within 60–70 days. This biological absorption profile makes Catgut Plain suitable for applications where prolonged tensile support is not required.

This variant is supplied in USP 2/0 (EP 3), 75 cm length, and fitted with an HR 37 (37 mm) round-bodied taper needle, making it suitable for soft tissue approximation where controlled penetration and minimal tissue trauma are required.
